Secret Cottage Reviews – June 2017

Here at the Secret Cottage, we are thrilled to share some of our latest guest reviews from June 2017. We are a family-run guided tour and have years of experience taking visitors around the Cotswolds on our 6-hour day tours. Not only do we take you through charming villages, show you stunning stately homes and beautiful Cotswold market towns but we pride ourselves in sharing our years of knowledge of the most stunning countryside in England along the way. We bring our guests to our home The Secret Cottage, giving them a tour of our 400-year old quintessential cottage, with a hot drink and pastry in the morning and a delicious homemade buffet lunch. We also treat our guests to a Cotswolds traditional cream tea in the afternoon!

Please read some of our recent reviews below from Trip Advisor, but first get a bird’s eye view of the Cotswolds on this short video that a recent guest made. We would like to thank Dustin for sharing this breath-taking glimpse of the Cotswolds.

“Beautiful place, easy pace, and nice people”

We had a wonderful tour of the Cotswolds with Nick in a nice van with only a few other people. Highly recommended to anyone who has an extra day available (or better yet, reserve a day) while in London. Stopping by the Secret Cottage and visiting with Becky and her family made the tour feel very intimate and personal – if you had a question about the history of the Cotswolds or the homes, Becky, Nick, and Robin were right there with the answer. It was a beautiful day (no rain!!) and our photos turned out wonderfully. Honestly, it’s hard to take a bad photo of such a picturesque land. Narrow rambling lanes, humpback bridges, fanciful saddle stones, lavish manor houses, peaceful churches, and quaint shops and pubs are all on the agenda as well as a few nice short easy strolls through the storybook-perfect villages and meadows of The Shires. My wife and two university-age children said it was the highlight of the week-long trip to England. Can’t wait to come back, but next time I will insist we have a proper pint at the 600-year old pub in Great Tew! Walking through it without stopping felt wrong. By the way, we didn’t see a single tour bus at any of our stops!! That was some sort of magic as the Cotswolds are crawling with them. Cost was reasonable and worth the few extra pounds over a generic tour with a large group on a bus. Getting there by train couldn’t be easier. Make sure to use your London Pass to cut down on the cost a bit; it covers the cost of the train ticket to Slough so it a little cheaper to buy a tix from there to Moreton-in-Marsh. Get a ticket agent in Paddington to help you buy the tix and show your them London Pass – they will make sure you pay the lowest fare and get on the correct train (did I mention you should buy a London Pass? – do it, as it makes things much easier and cheaper in London). Thank you to Nick, Robin, Becky and her daughter for an excellent day!! Dan – June 2017

“Wonderful day, wonderful hosts”

My cousin and I had a wonderful day exploring the Cotswolds on this tour. It was very well organised and the places we went to were interesting and different. The guides were well informed and entertaining, the information and organisation was faultless and the food was sensational. Carol – June 2017

“Best tour in England”

The day we spend at The Secret Cottage was the highlight of our trip to England. From the itinerary to experiencing the villages as a local, the idea is a success. Add to that, sweet Polly explaining the traditional (delicious!) dishes and friendly Nick’s patience and good humour. We highly recommend this tour as a most enjoyable glimpse at another world & time ……. Raul – June 2017

“Perfect day trip in the Cotswolds”

We booked this trip from Australia months ago and when the day arrived, we were not disappointed. The drivers and guides were terrific. They welcomed us at the allotted time at Morton-in-Marsh, gave us an outline of the day, kept up a running commentary along the way and included everyone. They’re knowledge of the area was outstanding. Not just on the locations but the history, agriculture, commerce, etc. They attempted to respond to every question asked of them and we all came away much more informed than when we began. Then the cottage, WOW. The morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea was second to none. You’re welcomed into the family home like you’re an old friend. The entire crew do a superb job to ensure your day is memorable. Well done. We’ll be back and we’ll certainly be recommending this to friends and family. Mandy – June 2017
